1. "Open Mic" does not equal Karaoke...
to memorize something and/or bring an instrument. 2. Find out what's appropriate before you sign up...
inappropriate, be polite and take your name off the list. 3. Don't bring a whole band...
acoustic soloists. Bands are loud and take time to set up; be considerate. At the very least, offer to go on last. 4. Ask your pianist...
knows the material you are wanting to sing, if not, sing something they do know... or meet with them ahead of time to rehearse.... NOBODY likes to be put on the spot ! 5. Be nice !
performing for the love of it. They don't have the hardened ego defenses of a professional, and it's not fair to heckle them. Some people are just going to suck. Live with it ... "open mic" is free, and you get what you pay for. Besides, if you're so great, why aren't you on your world tour... instead of at an "open mic" session?! |
